The whole goodbye thing sounds a bit clickbaity, doesn’t it?

But I really am leaving. See, my friend Eddy Quan has been bugging me for months now to start a proper email list, and actually, you know, email you regularly.

So that’s what I’m going to do.

Gumroad isn’t great for that, so I’m figuring out a better alternative and soon I’ll be sending out regular emails breaking down different elements of writing.

Topics so far include getting to the point, the psychology of writing, storytelling and lots more.

So look out for an email soon. I’ve transferred everyone over - if you don’t want to get the newsletter, just unsubscribe from the first one and you’ll never get another.

I’m excited about this new project for two reasons.

One, it’s a whole new avenue for me to help you learn to write better. Twitter's limited, and I can’t release new products every week. Email will help me, help you.

It’s something I wish I’d done sooner.

Because email is one of the most powerful tools a writer has. It’s a great way to build relationships with your readers. And it’s a great way to become a better writer, because you get instant feedback in terms of replies and email performance (measured in open rates, sales and unsubscribes).

It’s also the fastest way to make money from your writing. You can sell email writing as a skill (and my friend Eddy has made tens of thousands of dollars from this alone).

Or you can use emails to sell affiliate products or sell your own products and services. I’ve made pretty good money from that (even though I never set up a proper list haha).

My cohort that’s just finishing up was sold through a mix of Twitter and email and it made me a few thousand dollars. Same with various affiliate products I’ve promoted.

In short, if you want to get paid to improve your writing? Starting an email newsletter is the simplest and fastest way to go.
